For all of our mentors out there: The sharpe ratio is the average return earned in excess of the risk-free rate per unit of volatility or total risk. I like to think of it as a measurement of risk vs. reward. How would you describe sharpe ratio?

So is anyone else worried about China right now? I wanted to let this Evergrande fiasco play out before I asked. To be honest, I've been worried about China for 15 years now (and obviously have been wrong). But is anyone else worried about investing with this recent issue in China? https://www.cnbc.com/2021/10/04/evergrande-set-to-sell-part-of-stake-in-property-services-unit.html

See, what happened was: The Stock Company Filed For Bankruptcy, Then Liquidated = ME!! In the US, there are two main types of corporate bankruptcy: Chapter 11: The company will continue to operate, but it will be restructured and attempt to renegotiate its debts, and Chapter 7: The company stops operating and its assets are liquidated for cash, which is then paid to creditors in order of priority = ME. The stock gets delisted, but may trade over the counter with a "Q" at the end of the ticker symbol. Even if it sold OTC, it still takes a ‘Q’ = ME. Bankruptcy Liquidation Company Sells the Assets (building, furniture, paper clips, etc.): The order of “Who” gets paid / when: Secured creditors, such as banks; Unsecured creditors, such as bondholders; Preferred shareholders; and finally, Common shareholders = ME. Common shareholders don't receive anything unless the others are paid in full and there is money left to spare. The bankruptcy process can take years. So even if you were entitled to a small payout, you might have to wait a very long time to get it = ME.

WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get)Spreadsheet WYSIWYG was the name of the first computer spreadsheet when data was input using 80 hole punch cards. That gave you only 80 categories/ columns worth of data storage. They’ve only changed in name and number of categories/ columns 256.

Basis (or cost basis), as used in US tax law, is the original cost of property, adjusted for factors such as depreciation. When property is sold, the taxpayer pays / saves taxes on capital gain / (loss) that equals the amount realized on the sale price minus the sold property's cost / purchase price.

Are you maintaining your portfolio transactions on a spreadsheet? If not, how do you keep track of your stock activities?? I hope these figures and dates are not being “kept in your head”!! Original Stock Basis, Stock Split Basis, Stock Split Reversal Basis, Dividend Paid As Cash Basis, Dividend Reinvested As Stock Purchase Basis, Stock Sold As Capital Gains, Stocks Sold As Capital Losses, Which date determines if Capital gains / loss of Stocks sold are FIFO First In First Out or LIFO Last In First Out makes a difference in calculating amount of Capital Gain / Loss. Please, set up your spreadsheet.

Does anyone think AMZN will split?

Let us discuss.

The real estate market is still hot in North Carolina and may not fizzle for a little while. I am still of the persuasion that the housing market will eventually return to normal and price will be adjusted back to proper prices (fall 2022- spring 2023)but, until that point, if you have a fair amount of capital and you are looking for an investment, flipping homes may be a Great place to look.

Loving this stock! The holiday season should be very nice to NKE (so... hold off on buying shares until February... or at least when a large enough pullback happens... I suspect the $135.00 to $130.00 USD range). Good dividend, Good company, Good leadership, and amazing growth projections over the next few years.

Have you ever tried the envelope system for budgeting? It’s such an easy and common-sense way of managing money that you can’t really go wrong. In fact, my Mom still uses the envelope system. After so many years and so many advances with electronic banking, bank cards, apps, etc. She still trusts the envelope system for budgeting more than any other.

And of course managing your budget well means that you potentially have more to invest...

Here’s my full post on using the envelope system

I am not endorsing a 'buy' or 'sell' for NIO. I simply want to let everyone who may have invested because of the "Next Tesla" hype (Key words, "may" and "have") know, that hype may just be that. Hype. In spring of 2018 NIO was trading a little over $1.50 USD per share. The price per share has since sextillioned (using the word figuratively) and could have provided a near 6000% return on an initial investment in February of this year (2021). If you sold now, from that 2017 entry, you would still profit greatly. My argument, do not "bet the house" on NIO because you did not get into TSLA when the price per share was $50.00 USD (circa 2012-2016).

Bosses! Start creating and selling NFTs!! I know Chaster just asked the question about what we are most excited for, and I mentioned NFTs. This was no accident. Literally, we now have the ability to create, sell and earn (in perpetuity) on our work/product without having to worry about contracts, agreement disputes, tracking anyone who owes us money, or the likes. I am working on some physical art that I am going to sell- after making it into an NFT- and I encourage you all to do the same!

Great time to buy ARKK! This might be the biggest discount we get for a while! TSLA, SQ, ROKU, HOOD, all in one, just to name a few! Cathie knows what she is doing and has, for certain, positioned the fund to be a powerhouse fund from 2025 onward.

This technology sector ETF is amazing but I want to focus on 'XLI'- the SPDR Fund that holds the top performing industrial companies of the Standard & Poor's 500 (S&P 500). The conversion to "clean" electric energy is going to cost somewhere around 2 Trillion dollars (USD) over the next 20 years. I suspect this will dramatically increase cash flow (via government contracts and subsides) to the largest industrial (and industrial adjacent) companies in the market (CAT, HD, John Deere). I am going heavy on industrials for the steady, slow, consistent, growth for the next 30 years because of the ease with which we will be able to build things- quick aside, and I will continue to state this- I Love 3D printing technology and this will play a major factor in that growth of industrials as well.
